Throughout the years, Ms. Long has seen, heard, and experienced the difficulties the disabled and non-disabled have had to deal with in the working community. Hallie herself has known the anguish of being the recipient of the misinformed about the disabled, but has managed to live a normal life unknowingly applying concepts she was to use later on to help others. |
|
She first put her newly acquired education to use by working at C&C Manor, a home for the elderly. Then during her marriage, she and her husband began speaking at any organization that requested their help. These opportunities helped her to realize she had a special gift for educating the general public in understanding the capabilities of people with disabilities. With a view of a future where people with disabilities and people without disabilities live and work freely by understanding each other, Hallie Long created Mainstreaming in America in 1996. Mainstreaming in America’s initial focus was assisting others with disabilities to gain independence through learning to advocate for themselves. After ten years of operation Hallie felt the need to take a hiatus in order to care for an ailing family member. But her passion for helping the disabled did not wane during that time and Ms. Long has now picked up where she left off. Through experience and valuable comments from her previous clients and participants, Hallie has kept abreast of issues regarding disability. This knowledge enables Hallie to disburse the most useful information for your specific needs. With the help of Mainstreaming in America you and your staff will be able to experience the freedom of disability by staying informed. Hallie continues to push ahead with Mainstreaming in America in hopes that her vision of the future will be realized someday.
